The Return of Flying Scotsman

BBC Four documentary on the return of Gresley A3 4472/60103 'Flying Scotsman' to service back in 2016.
Flying Scotsman returned to steam back in January 2016 on the East Lancs Railway after a ten year long overhaul.

The Flying Scotsman is one of the best British steam locomotives! This documentary made me shed tears of happiness cause Flying Scotsman is part of a great history and the crown jewel in British Railway's history. I've never met her, however, I enjoy seeing her wherever I can - may be in video etc. RIP Sir William McAlpine.

It's an amazing thing: the emotional experience Steam Locomotives drive in the human experience. It's great to see the restoration of these old giants. Even in the United States the restoration of Big Boy 4014 brought people from all over the globe. To see young and old with moistened eyes was quite the exhilarating event to feel the earth rumbling underfoot.  I was privileged enough to talk to some great steam fans from Edinburgh, Cape Town, Christchurch and others. It was absolutely phenomenal.

Why are petrol, diesel prices rising in India?

Indians are paying a bomb for fuel despite cheap crude prices

अगर पेट्रोल डीजल के दाम इसी तरह बढ़ते रहे तो जल्द ही इस जुगाड़ की जरूरत सब को पड़ेगी

Retail prices of automobile fuels have reached record highs across the country. Petrol and diesel are taxed heavily in India, and oil price decontrol is a one-way street — the consumer never benefits.

As petrol & diesel prices continue to rise across the country, people of india are paying quadruple price for a litre of petrol compared to its crude price. Here's why.

Indians pay four times for a litre of petrol compared to its crude price, which is only around a litre of packaged drinking water. Taxes, commissions, excise and other charges levied on the end-user ensure that fuel rates do not go down significantly in India even when international crude oil prices are low.
Ideally, retail prices of petrol and diesel in the domestic market are linked to global crude prices. This means if crude prices drop in the international market, then prices in retail should come down as well. But, this is not the case, most of the time.
On the contrary, despite the 13% drop in international crude prices, Indian consumers paid 13% prices (considering the average price of petrol to be Rs. 88 per litre) between January, 2020 and January, 2021.

The cost of petrol in Ganganagar, Rajasthan

रु100 पेट्रोल प्रति लिटर - गंगानगर, राजस्थान में इस युवा ने मोदी जी के समान भाषण दिया

According to Indian Oil Corporation data, the retail price of non-premium petrol at Ganganagar touched Rs 100.13 per litre on February 17, 2021 and in MP's Nagarabandh it is at Rs 100.40 per litre.

Petrol price breached Rs 100 mark in Rajasthan's Ganganagar district and Madhya Pradesh's Nagarabandh on Wednesday as fuel rates hiked for the ninth consecutive day. According to Indian Oil Corporation data, the retail price of non-premium petrol at Ganganagar touched Rs 100.13 per litre on February 17, 2021. Diesel price in Ganganagar is at Rs 92.13 per litre. Current petrol price in MP's Nagarabandh is Rs 100.40 per litre, as per IOCL data; whereas, the diesel is priced at Rs 90.81 per litre.

On the other hand, for the first time, petrol has jumped to Rs 96 per litre in Mumbai after oil companies hiked the price by 25 paise on Wednesday. The cost of 1 litre of diesel has touched Rs 86.98.

In Delhi, petrol is on the verge of crossing Rs 90, and diesel Rs 80 as fuel rates continue to rise sharply. Petrol costs Rs 89.54 per litre, and diesel Rs 79.95 per litre.

Ms Ravi's arrest and detention is "completely atrocious"

India activist Disha Ravi arrested over farmers' protest 'toolkit'.

Police said Disha Ravi was a "key conspirator" in the "formulation and dissemination" of the document. The "toolkit", which suggests ways of helping the farmers, was tweeted by prominent activist Greta Thunberg. Activists say Ms Ravi's arrest is a clear warning to those who want to show support to anti-government protests.

A 22-year-old Indian climate activist has been arrested after sharing a document intended to help farmers protest against new agricultural laws.

The farmers' protests mark the biggest challenge India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has faced. His government has offered to suspend the laws but the farmers want them replaced altogether.

Politicians, actors, academics, activists and influencers across the globe have condemned the arrest of a 21-year-old climate activist for allegedly being involved in sharing with Greta Thunberg a "toolkit" on social media related to the farmers' protest.

In a tweet, Congress leader P. Chidambaram said the "Indian state must be standing on very shaky foundations" if Disha Ravi was arrested. Meena Haeeis stated, "activists are being targeted and silenced by the government."

It is all beyond shocking! The GOI is dismantling Indian democracy. Each passing day it's stooping to a new low! Civil society must join hands to restore our republic.

Stop Overthinking Everything

Put aside Perfectionism

Perfectionism is one of the biggest blockers to swift, effective decision-making because it operates on faulty all-or-nothing thinking. For example, perfectionism can lead you to believe that if you don't make the "correct" choice (as if there is only one right option), then you are a failure. Or that you must know everything, anticipate every eventuality, and have a thorough plan in place before making a move. Trying to weigh every possible outcome and consideration is paralyzing.

To curb this tendency, ask yourself questions like:
  •    Which decision will have the biggest positive impact on my top priorities?
  •     Of all the possible people I could please or displease, which one or two people do I least want to disappoint?
  •     What is one thing I could do today that would bring me closer to my goal?
  •     Based on what I know and the information I have at this moment, what's the best next step?

After all, it's much easier to wrap your head around and take action towards a single next step rather than trying to project months or years into the future.

Right-size the problem

Some decisions are worth mulling over, while others are not. Before you make a call, write down what goals, priorities, or people in your life will be impacted. This will help you differentiate between what's meaningful and what's not worth obsessing over.

Likewise, if you're worried about the prospect of a decision bombing, try the 10/10/10 test. When the prospect of falling flat on your face seizes you, think about how you'll feel about the decision 10 weeks, 10 months, or 10 years from now? It's likely that the choice will be inconsequential or that you won't even remember it was a big deal. Your answers can help you put things in perspective and rally the motivation you need to take action.

Leverage the underestimated power of intuition

Intuition works like a mental pattern matching game. The brain considers a situation, quickly assesses all your experiences, and then makes the best decision given the context. This automatic process is faster than rational thought, which means intuition is a necessary decision-making tool when time is short and traditional data is not available. In fact, research shows that pairing intuition with analytical thinking helps you make better, faster, and more accurate decisions and gives you more confidence in your choices than relying on intellect alone. In one study, car buyers who used only careful analysis were ultimately happy with their purchases about a quarter of the time. Meanwhile, those who made intuitive purchases were happy 60 percent of the time. That's because relying on rapid cognition, or thin-slicing, allows the brain to make wise decisions without overthinking.

Hot Girl in Sexy Red Dress Hypnotizes Men

Hot girl in a short, sexy red dress stops men passing by and says hello. The men are total strangers and don't recognise this beautiful woman, but they're quite pleased by the attention. The men are so mesmerized by her that they are no longer aware of their surroundings - they turn around and immediately run into an old ladies' tea party, knocking over the entire table and smashing all the china teacups.

It's not that their brain turns off cause they see a pretty woman. It's that they can't figure out why she's paying attention to them. We men are such easy targets when a pretty woman is involved. Looking at this gag, I am laughing but at the same time, I realise how predictable we are...

Respect the Flour Tortilla

We've been trying out recipes for homemade flour tortillas for what seems like forever – however, we've never been thrilled with any of them. Definitely not thrilled enough to blog them – too dry, too sticky, too crisp, too bland, too soggy, too complicated. This time, with these flour tortillas, it's different. They totally live up to their name – Best Ever Homemade Flour Tortillas!

Just portion the dough, give it a rest, then roll each piece nice and thin and give them a stint (one-two minutes!) in a medium-hot, dry pan. Voila! Once you take the first taste, you'll NEVER want pre-packaged tortillas again.
